No Retaliation Promise

One of the most dangerous aspects of running is the local %^&#@ who finds it funny to either yell some stupid remark or throw something at you as you run down the side of the road. Please, fellow runners, make a promise to not retaliate. All these shallow people are doing is looking for a reaction so they can become aggressive and start a fight. By reacting, you are playing into their game and asking for an incident that is going to follow you for a long time, maybe even the rest of your life. Some suggestions to help these people go away are:

1) Ignore them and keep running. If you need to get off the road or take a detour from your route, do so.
2) If they persist or keep coming back each day, get their license plate number and report it to the police.
3) If they get out of the car or try and chase you flag down another vehicle to help or call the police.
4) If they follow you, do not go home. Try to get away from them or go to an alternate site, such as a convenience store, library, police station etc... You do not want them to know where you live.
5) Run in groups of two or more if possible, especially if you are running at night.

If you have been hassled by such people and have a story to share, please do. Any other suggestions are also welcome.
